Risk & Insurance Education Alliance Course Help (CIC, CISR)
The Risk and Insurance Education Alliance offers courses like the Certified Insurance Service Representative (CISR) and Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) programs that require careful preparation to ensure you meet all the requirements. Here's a guide to help you navigate the process smoothly and effectively.
Preparing for the CIC/CISR Course and Exam
A week before your scheduled CIC/CISR course, keep an eye out for an email from the Risk and Insurance Education Alliance. This email will contain important details about your course and exam. If you don't see it, check your junk mail or blacklist and make sure to accept emails from the Alliance.
Next, update your profile on the Risk and Insurance Education Alliance website by visiting your myProfile page. Ensure your license number, CE preferences, and contact information are up-to-date. If you encounter any issues, you can reach out for assistance via email at asaleem@bigimn.org
Important to remember that you need to maintain the same contact information for your Big I MN profile and your Alliance profile because we share data and if they are different duplicate records could be created and information misplaced.

CISR Exam Process and Key Information
The CISR exam will be conducted online and will open at 4:15 PM on the day of your class, remaining accessible until 11:59 PM CST on the Thursday of the following week. If you attend an in-person classroom course and prefer to take the exam immediately after the class, the instructor or onsite coordinator will stay to proctor the exam. However, you must bring your own electronic device, as none will be provided.
For those who prefer to take the exam later, you have the flexibility to do so during the designated exam window. Remember, a disinterested third-party proctor is required for all CISR online exams. Your proctor must have no direct business or family relationship with you, and no financial interest in your exam results. Examples of qualified proctors include official testing centers, online proctoring services like MonitorEDU, or individuals in dedicated HR or training roles.
If you're interested in using MonitorEDU, an approved online proctoring system, you can learn more here.
How the Exam Works – As with the CISR exam, a disinterested third-party proctor is required. Detailed information on proctoring requirements can be found here.
CIC Exam Structure and Preparation
The CIC exam is also online, with the exam window opening on Monday at 12:01 AM CST and closing on Thursday at 11:59 PM CST the week following the class. Unlike the CISR, the CIC program has been condensed into two days, eliminating the third day due to the online exam format.
If you're attending a CIC classroom course, you'll need to submit your proctor request through your PROfile page before the end of the class. This process is similar to that of a webinar course, ensuring that all exam protocols are followed.
How the Exam Works - During the 96-hour exam window (Monday to Thursday following the course), a link to the exam will automatically be available on your PROfile page. You'll have two hours to complete the test once you begin.
After completing the exam, your results will be available within 4-5 weeks on your PROfile page. The National Alliance will file your CE credits with the state insurance departments within 10 days of course completion.
By following these steps, you can ensure a smooth and successful experience with your CISR or CIC course and exam. Preparation, attention to detail, and understanding the requirements will help you achieve your continuing education goals in the insurance industry
